Space Parasite - 2010
I spent close to a week creating this stupid thing, and when the comic it appeared in was finally assembled, you couldn't see it! I decided it deserved a better showing, so here it is.
When originally designing the parasite, I wanted to create a creature that looked alien compared to the other beings in the BIM universe (not an easy task considering how varied most of them are) while still remaining stylistically compatible with the comic's look. It seemed that I could effect this in part by making the design more complicated than most of the regulars, a trait that will likely make the parasite a rarely returning side character. I started with the look of the Xenomorph (one of the greatest monsters of all time) and tried to draw a version of it as if it existed in the “Yellow Submarine” universe. As I worked on it, it started taking on qualities of Chinese and Aztec stone sculpture, which was a happy accident but I went with it to glad effect.
I love the look of this guy… now say goodbye to him forever.
